Galena (Spinel twinned) with Sphalerite
Donald Olson brought out these spectacular clusters of twinned galena from a small pocket of the old Brushy Creek mine some years ago at a Denver show (circa 2018). I recall being excited, as I had seen thumbnails of this material back in the 1980s and 1990s as a beginning collector but never any large specimens. This was the best I recall seeing and features a 360-degree complete twin perched smartly atop other twinned crystals, all showing sharp form. The large crystal atop is 2.7 cm across. It is amazing in its quality and isolation, which also is unusual for the find. The whole piece, for that matter, is complete all around. This is a significant USA origin galena, different from most others in form and rarity. Tiny sparkly crystals around the base are sphalerites, that sparkle like sugar for accent.
