A gorgeous gem crystal of emerald on matrix from Colombia, with the best and most radiant color that a mineral collector could want! This is a remarkable full-sized thumbnail specimen with a textbook 2.1 x 0.8 x 0.7 cm hexagonal prism dramatically situated on a contrasting calcite matrix. The matrix is tinted a pleasant gray from included graphite on a shard of graphite phyllite matrix as is so typical of the Muzo mines. The darker matrix actually enhances the color of these crystals, compared to white matrix (when held side by side), and the darker emeralds do tend to be on the darker matrix as well. If the deep emerald green color wasn't enough, the crystal is modified by first and second order pyramid faces, terminated on one end by the pinacoid, that enhance the highly lustrous character of the top termination of this fabulous crystal. An absolutely choice matrix emerald from the Dr. Francesco Bedogne collection, with his label.
