An absolutely gigantic yet sharp and aesthetic compound crystal of calcite, an old Tri-State specimen, from the collection of Gary Hansen. Those are little flecks or chalcopyrite you see just inside the surface of the crystal. The crystal is translucent, with a very light honey color to it. It has this wonderful stepped form to it, along with edge bevels, that make it truly attractive in addition to being overwhelmingly impressive for its size. Note that the crystal was lightly acid-dipped by the miners to clean it as was the habit of miners in those days. THESE ARE OLD CLASSICS OF THE 1940s-1950s, RARELY, IF EVER SEEN FOR SALE ON THE MARKET. Ex. Gary Hansen collection.
