This is an important locality specimen from the single most famous of all old Australian mine locations, as it is a rich plate of Cuprite crystals from the famous Broken Hill District in New South Wales, Australia. Cuprite, and copper itself, is actually rare from this prolific copper ore mine but what really makes this special is that they are cubic cuprites - a highly rare style and shape for any location, let alone here. Sharp and metallic, the Cuprites reach up to 5 mm. Abundant across the matrix, even under normal shooting light you can see the faint hint of the red, translucent glow that Cuprites can be known for. Crystals with a cubic habit are the exception rather than the norm for Broken Hill Cuprites, which makes this bountiful, small cabinet piece even more desirable. Previously in the European collections of Guido Guglielmini and Giancarlo Fioravanti according to records from Kurt Hefendehl (no labels survive).
