This very unusual and large old Bisbee calcite specimen came out of the collection of Dave Stoudt, who bought it from a private collector in Tucson in 2001. It is an exquisitely sculptural and 3-dimensional aggregate of poker-chip calcites, showing both translucent, shiny areas and a colorful iron-oxide coating. Calcite specimens were preserved by miners from the very early days of this most classic of American mines, as they had no commercial value and therefore the mining companies did not care, but the miners respected them for their beauty and variety. Dave Stoudt collected quite a variety of Bisbee calcites himself.
