Firstly, the luster on this is astonishing, like wet sugar. Many mineral specimens have been likened in appearance to flowers. This specimen is a case study in the metaphor. Here, snow white fingers of botryoidal calcite have been mostly covered by a second generation of calcite that is more or less colorless; but which has incredible wet or waxy luster and an eerie translucence. The largest tentacle-like measures 5.0 cm in length. Ex. Martin Lewadny Collection.
