A double-terminated (floater) at 1.8 x 1.2 x 1.5 cm, showing a translucent to semi-transparent, deep-red gemmy octahedral crystal with glassy edges. A large size for such a well defined crystal, this is an exceptional thumbnail specimen from Alex's competition exhibits. Equant and dramatic for the geometry. From legendary French dealer, Francois Lietard (St. Martin en Haut, France) in October 2009, at the Munich Gem & Mineral Show. Photo by Jeff Scovil.
