A most unusual topaz specimen from a highly obscure but historical locality in the Pamir Mountains where many historic Russian expeditions went for mining and mineralogy. This hefty, blocky topaz crystal is included with dark tourmalines which look like they are schorls, but have a lavender elbaite core. The crystal is complete all around, with a nice termination although somewhat corroded etched-looking side faces. Of all people, I tend to believe in Obodda the most for his sourcing, and he was active in the Russian sourcing very early and then for a long time. Formerly in the Obodda collection. 358 grams
