Native Copper with cubic XLS and Analcime
Exemplary combination piece composed of crystallized Copper and Analcime, from the noted Phoenix Mine in Michigan. The Copper ranges from sharp and rare cubic crystals to elongated crystals (Spinel Twins?) that are hoppered. The largest of these is 2.4 cm, and the patina on the Copper is rich and metallic. It is original color, not acid-cleaned as are so many of these old pieces (generally most such specimens date to the late 1800s and prior to WWI and it was tragically common among collectors at the time to acid clean and lacquer the coppers). The Analcime is highly important and rare in association with copper! The large crystal is 2.3 cm across as it sits on the matrix. There are three other smaller, but quite sharp, Analcime crystals. Interestingly, under UV light, there are two mineral unknowns (perhaps Calcite and Prehnite?) that fluoresce a blue-white and a greenish gold color. Simply a terrific and aesthetic combination piece from this historic mine, and a dramatic display specimen of a rare association. The cubic copper crystals are a terrific bonus, and seldom seen. ex Sol Shavetz collection
