Opportunities to own wonderfully-zoned southern Illinois Fluorites don't come all that often, and this toenail is simply a jewel! The largest Fluorites have a purple core surrounded by a sharp line of deeper purple, with the outer half of the gemmy crystals being light blue. The surface is glassy and transparent, so it allows full appreciation of the sharp zoning. Very minor edge wear shows up in the photo, but was hard to spot in person. There are a few Calcites up to 8 mm that add interest, but the sharp balance and zoning is the star here. RCL 4989 (one of the few pieces this small in the collection of 2200 specimens, which tells you a lot about what the previous owner thought of it!)
