This specimen is one of, if not the best, cluster of green diopside crystals from NY. It is a historic piece from this old locality, though the previous history has sadly been lost (it certainly should date to the early 1900s). It is complete all around and relatively aesthetic for the material - which usually is either ugly, or just in loose singles. This particular piece was one of the more widely known pieces from Larry Conklin's collection of old classics, at least among those who have visited his home in the past and seen it on display. He obtained it from Steve Smale in exchange, in the early 1980s. Joe Budd photos.
