This is a remarkable cavansite. First, it's a near floater with just minimal contact at the base but otherwise complete all around, somehow. Secondly, it is a stalactite, and of a size quite rare for the species which normally occurs as smaller, dispersed clusters. Finally, it exhibits three different, and vivid, colors of royal blue hues, subtle shades within the overall first visual impression of "blue." Apparently, this specimen grew as a stalactite but I have never seen such a beast of a stalactite cavansite before - usually they are just thumbnails, or larger clusters maybe but with large contacts to matrix. This had to grow freestanding. Without a doubt, this is one of the most dramatic specimens of cavansite I have ever seen, especially for the size. Funny story, is that in Denver of 1997 or thereabouts I agonized over buying this specimen from Ken Roberts at his booth on the Main Show floor. It was so much money at the time, and quantity of cavansite had really just started to come out. Who knew what would come next? As remarkable as it was, it was a big chunk of my show budget at the time and I decided to sleep on it. Sure enough, when I came back the next day, Ken was wrapping it for Marty and it was gone. I always regretted not owning this specimen and so it was one of the specific pieces I angled for when the collection was dispersed. And...no more like THIS ever came out! Instinct proved right. 5.5 x 3.6 x 2 cm
