A very fine, cherry-red, gem crystal of the rare manganese species Rhodonite. Previously, before this find at an old industrial manganese mine in Brazil, the only few crystals of such a quality came out of Australia at the turn of the 1900's. Now, because of this remarkable find, there are large, showy rhodonite crystals on the market - though not as many as we would wish! This pocket was in summer of 2009 (as featured on an MR cover; and I know this piece was from it, because it was the best piece under $10,000 I had at the time, and I sold it to Jack myself). This is a robust crystal with the absolute best cherry red color, and sharply terminated at both ends as displayed, contacted in back.
