Beautiful and exceptionally large Calcite point, with Copper, from the famous Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan. This single Calcite termination is lustrous and gemmy, and the platy Copper adds a great touch, both aesthetically and mineralogically. The Copper is even coated with microcrystalline Cuprite, giving it an attractive red color and sparkle. Originally in the Vance Collection, then the Pasadena City College collection, this was #5065 in Kay's. It is a very rare "jewel calcite" with no copper inclusions, from a region which produced few such pure calcites. The association, though, is a nice bonus! Old classics, seldom seen from the heyday here in the 1800s and early 1900s.
