Jamesonite in Calcite
Exceptional German specimen of the Lead Antimony Sulfide, Jamesonite. The metallic crystal lathes, which grew in a matrix of pink Calcite, are silvery-grey, quite shiny, and reach an amazing length of 8 cm. These crystals are so out of the ordinary that I had trouble believing the identification (maybe it could be stibnite?); and so they were sent out for X-Ray analysis. Sure enough, they are Jamesonite. I have not seen their equals from Germany. Once in the Moeckel Collection, this came to Kay (#4429) through Al McGuinness, probably around 1970. A great Jamesonite from anywhere, but a particularly important European example of this species!
