Stunningly attractive, iridescent Chalcopyrite on Calcite from a limited find in Hubei, China a few years ago (about 2015)! A heavy dusting of sparkling, multicolored iridescent, <0.5mm Chalcopyrite crystals cover barely discernible, gray-white to white Calcite scalenohedrons in a very attractive grouping. The color of the peacock iridescence are like a kaleidoscope and ranges from scintillating orange to yellow to green and then red and blue! Individual Chalcopyrites that comprise the coating are <0.2mm in size and are so dense and tightly grouped that only the form of the Calcite is evident with only a trace of Calcite appearing locally in the display area and around the periphery of the piece. Very minor damage only, prevents this from being double the price - but for a few dings, it is still a Breathtaking specimen. These are truly something unique to a place and time. We have been back to our sources at the mines in Hubei many times since then, looking for more - but they are gone, and nothing like them has turned up since.
