Highly aesthetic group of tabular, sharp, caramel-brown to rust-red, Wulfenite crystals from the Defiance Mine in Arizona. This extended, platey habit, layered very much like shingles and definitely looking like spear points, is a signature form often seen at Defiance, and is quite attractive. The surprisingly high luster brings a subtle iridescence to the caramel color, which makes the Wulfenites 'pop'. Individual crystals can reach 2.5 cm, with these clusters extending to 5 cm. As is usually the case with Wulfenites, there are a few segmented crystals, but they have minimal effect on the overall aesthetics. The substantial merits of this piece make it quite dramatic in its own way, and it is exemplary for Defiance. Likely collected during the 1960s, I would hold this robust specimen up to most any Wulfenite out there. Purchased in 1961 from dealer Floyd Wilson. NOTE: this cannot be mailed.
