Cobalt-rich Calcites of this quality came out only a few times during the production history of the Mashamba West Mine, and it is considered very scarce. The elegant crystals and rich color stand out from all other finds here of pink scalenhedra and rhombohedra. This marvelous miniature is a lively neon-pink and is composed of numerous, disk-shaped, translucent, zoned crystals, some in parallel growth. This cluster has excellent color saturation, luster, and translucency with crystals up to an inch across. The main group of Cobaltoan Calcite crystals is comprised of about five crystals in parallel growth and and the composite group has a lighter pink translucent phantom at the interior surrounded by a transparent, hot pink exterior creating a fabulous effect. All of the crystals on this piece have razor sharp edges with only minor contacting on the backside and bottom where it was attached in the pocket. Pieces from this spectacular old find rarely turn up for sale. A vibrantly colored piece that pops in any display!
