An unusual matrix Emerald "pocket piece" from the Muzo Mine in Colombia that not only hosts several nice gemmy Emerald crystals but also shows the matrix and mode of occurrence in which emeralds can grow. A beautiful vug (pocket) in a laminated, charcoal gray matrix is lined with 1 to 2 mm, white Albite crystals that have a trace of colorful iron staining, and some tiny Pyrite crystals. The Emeralds are translucent to transparent, rather stout crystals ranging in length from 1 to 2 cm, slightly striated; and they display a saturated Emerald green color. Most of the Emerald crystals are growing across the cavity from end-to-end, for a dramatic effect! Old Kristalldruse Munchen label. Unique in our experience, this is a very interesting specimen with "talking points" as soon as you lay eyes on it.
