Silvery, deep-red Cuprites from Mashamba are highly regarded, and this piece is quite representative of the locality for quality and aesthetics. This plate features several large, intergrown crystals on minor matrix, with the largest crystal being 2.1 cm across. The crystals are sharp. The luster on the Cuprites is very good, and the dark silver color will glow blood-red when backlit. This is classic material from the old Congo mining region.
