This is a crazy important and unusually gemmy Diopside crystal from THE classic U.S. locality! They were found in the late 1800's, and have remained sought-after treasures since. This is one of the finer examples for the size: It is a large, very high quality Diopside crystal with deep forest-green color and a large transparent to translucent zone at the top! A few faces on this robust crystal are super lustrous and other prism faces are lightly striated displaying a satin luster, as do the pyramidal faces at the termination. This locality has produced some very significant Diopside crystals for the species and this is certainly one of them - not the biggest, but among the finest. There have been many short, stumpy Diopsides from this location over the years that turn up in old collections, but seldom have we seen one with such presence. It's stout, tall and proportional with rich color and a large gemmy zone! This is a superb, significant, single crystal weighing in at 46 grams.
