The dioptase finds from Tsumeb are often heralded as the greatest of the species due to their gemmy, rich green color and relatively large size. Often found on white calcite matrix, the striking contrast of these specimens make them crowd favorites - from both the public and collectors of all levels. This thumbnail example features many lustrous, gemmy dioptase crystals up to 1.3 cm in size on white calcite matrix. While there are contacts on this example, especially around the perimeter, it hardly detracts from the visual appeal of the specimen, making this an affordable example of the species from this long-closed classic locality. From the well-known Namibian mineral collection of Shields and Frances Flynn, who self-published the book, Minerals of Namibia - From the Collection of Shields and Frances Flynn in 2018.
