Clustered together in an attractive jackstraw arrangement are highly lustrous, elongate, milky white crystals of cerussite to 3 cm in length. Very few Broken Hill cerussites are ever seen at mineral shows any more and even though some of these crystals are contacted, which is not unusual considering their softness, this specimen is still significant. I have been told that these date to the late 1800s, but have no proof of that except the facts that they do seem to turn up in very old museum collections and once were mixed up with similar specimens from the late 1800s-era Wheatley mine in Pennsylvania. This is a fine, lustrous, beautiful specimen of this rare old material.
