A highly unusual example of smithsonite, from an unknown mine in the vicinity of Chifeng, Inner Mongolia. Only a few of these ever came out, and they were treated like gold in China because of the rarity of smithsonite there, as a species. Many collectors just wanted one to have one. This was in a larger rock, now trimmed down to show off a crystallized disco ball shape of smithsonite within a natural bowl. The smithsonite is translucent, and a strange yellow-green color. The cluster measures 3.7 x 4.5 cm. A strange smithsonite from a rare find of probably around 2018, this is indeed a rarity from China and has enough shape and style to fit into a worldwide smithsonite suite as well.
