Unlike most of the sherry-colored topaz specimens from Mogok, which are single crystals, this one is associated with matrix and is, surprisingly, doubly-terminated. The top termination is crystallographically complex and the crystal is totally transparent, MUCH MORE gemmy in person because of the way the camera has trouble focussing through the gemminess and ehnaces slight veils as a result. The specimen is nearly pristine, save for a few minute dings at the base. It is equant, and symmetric around its girth. A large and fine topaz, indeed! It is just SO MUCH better in person. From the William Larson Burma collection, brought out prior to the current total embargo on Burmese minerals and gemstones. "Burma Bill" as he is known there was pivotal in bringing out fine specimens in conjunction with his gemstone business, and has built the largest privately held collection of fine Burmese minerals, one could say with some degree of certainty. This was released from his collection several years ago.
