This oldtime gold is completely crystallized and from the latter half of the 19th century when gold and silver mining was at its apex in this historically important district. It has a matte luster and exquisite crystallization characteristic of the locality, and has not been burned clean to enhance the luster - it retains its original patina. It is quite possible that this lighter color is the result of a very minor silver content in the specimen.
