The distinctive Calcite/Stibnite combinations from the Xikuangshan deposit are renowned for the flattened habits of their Calcites along with the sheer beauty of, and association with, Stibnites. The large, 4.4 cm, soft-golden crystal of Calcite is gemmy and has excellent luster. Adding to its appeal is the fact that it has what appears to be a well-defined twinning plane that mirrors two long Stibnite crystals within the Calcite. The intergrown Calcite and Stibnites then rest, at least in one orientation, on a plate of finely crystallized Quartz. Probably dating back at least 20 years, this highly aesthetic piece certainly adds to China's fine legacy of quality Calcites. Even better in person. ex Smale collection
