This huge specimen is a really intensely-colored high-quality, translucent, and rich purple Fluorite from the Denton Mine. The Fluorite has very good luster, and is unusually smooth in its surface texture, for this mine. Interestingly, you can see deep purple radiation spots when light is transmitted through the thinner portions. These show where included specks of naturally radioactive isotopes turned the fluorite a darker color in a radius around them. Sets of faces are preferentially decorated with hundreds of little Calcite "jewels" - gemmy, lustrous, and euhedral. The overall effect is really quite beautiful and dramatic - contrasting the long, sharp lines of the fluorite cubes with the jewel-like coating of calcite. It was collected from the south face of the Bahama orebody in 1992. There were a few small cracks in back and so it has been stabilized to protect it with a little glue over those lines (in the back). It is actually complete around all the edges, and much more obviously complex and 3-dimensional in person. Overall, the aesthetics of this large cabinet specimen are excellent and hard to convey in photos.
