This miraculously UNREPAIRED, fat crystal of tourmaline is from the classic Queen Mine known for being the best source of tourmaline carving rough in the world for a period in the early 1900s, when specimens went off to China for carvings for the empress dowager. The streets of San Diego, in parts, are still named after the minerals found there...I used to live off of "garnet" avenue, pronounced wrongly now as "gar-NET" in town. It has rich, juicy color internally, especially when backlit or carved. Internally, also, it has a HUGE GEM NODULE in the bottom that would cut a sizable stone. This is also a great specimen, though, as it is complete all around, fairly equant in symmetry, and stands nicely 6.7 x 5.8 x 5.3 cm
