A gemmy and glassy, 5.96 carat tanzanite crystal from the Merelani Hills of Tanzania. The crystal has good trichroism and is not heat treated. A trivial edge bruise is certainly not detracting from this fine crystal. Government control of the tanzanite mines has made obtaining uncut gem crystals very difficult, hence driving up the price. The two backlit photos highlight the gemminess of the crystal. GORGEOUS! 1.2 x 0.9 x 0.8 cm
