This is an old nugget, though who knows how old it might be, from the famous old district for goldmining in Washington State. There is a great article on the town it comes from at http://www.ghosttownsofwashington.com/Liberty.html. This piece is nearly all gold, with a specific gravity determination of gold content at 3.7 troy ounces. The overlaying quartz has been removed to expose the unique wire golds for which this place is famous among collectors. We seldom see any good examples come to market. Joe Budd photos.
