An exceptionally large, and finely formed, Phosgenite crystal on Galena from the Monteponi Mine. This Italian classic is extremely difficult to obtain in gem crystals, and virtually unobtainable in a specimen as glassy and gemmy as this one, with such a fine termination. You could actually cut this superb crystal into rare gemstones! The 4.2 cm crystal is well-terminated, with fine lustrous faces, and it is close to being doubly-terminated. There are natural contacts on the bottom and back. It is undamaged. The crystal has a yellow fluorescence, which is actually strongest in the upper centimeter - the gemmiest portion of the crystal. A great, aesthetic specimen. Better even in person, where you can really appreciate the luster and gemminess that is hard to capture with camera. Ex Muzzoni collection, 1970.
