An impressive, old-time, large cabinet calcite specimen from the famous iron mines at Frizington, England. The convex, sculptural crust is totally covered with glassy, colorless to hematite-tinted, modified calcite scalenohedrons to 1.7 cm. I like the way that one end of the piece is dominated by the tinted crystals. This end provides a stark contrast to the rest of the specimen. Certainly this piece is 100 years old or older. Ex. Dr. John Ward Collection and there is an old cloth label glued to the inside of the specimen.
