A fine, very rare, large, old-time cabinet morganite specimen from the less well-known Vanderburg Mine of San Diego County. The gemmy and lustrous, 9.0 x 3.4 cm, vivid pink crystal is partially complete with some damaged faces on the sides and partially contacted. It rests atop a matrix of cleavelandite, pink lepidolite and quartz. This impressive specimen also has a very interesting history. Arch Oboler (1907-1987) was a playwright, screenwriter, novelist, producer, and director who was active in radio, films, theater and television. He is regarded today as one of the innovators of radio drama in the 1930s. When the Oboler collection was sold, it went to well-known collector Marion Stuart. Marion lent the piece to the L.A. County Museum and it later sold to another collector.
