This fine cinnabar specimen is likely from older finds of the 1990s, and was long in the thumbnail collection of Irv Brown of San Diego. It features a sharp, gemmy, cherry red crystal with high luster, perched dramatically on a crystallized pedestal of dolomite. The cinnabar is approximately 1.5 cm or so in all directions (or a bit more depending on how you angle the measure). While cinnabar from China is not rare, and thumbnails abound, this is a particularly fine specimen for both the crystal quality and, more importantly, the overall aesthetics you would want in a competitive level thumbnail collection.
