For a limestone quarry that produces ho-um sulfur crystals and fine fluorite specimens, this sulfur specimen is a cut above the normal expectations! This cluster features intergrown, lustrous and translucent, bright yellow sulfur crystals to 2.5 cm in length. The largest crystal is also doubly terminated. Small calcite accents add character and the shape of the calcites is distinct from anything from Italy, proving the other-than-Italy origin of the specimen. I grew up in the Midwest and collected here numerous times while in school, and saw the collections of John Medici and others who collected here - and I can say with certainty, that crystals such as this, so good they could pass as Italian, are incredibly rare! The calcite is a bonus that makes this a competitive-level competition miniature, sulfur from the USA...something one seldom sees! It is a glowing yellow color when backlit, and displays dramatically in a case. The luster is better in person, as it is hard to capture sulfur luster in photos. Ex. Charles Noll collection.
