This stunning large miniature shows off "leaf gold" on one side, but well defined, elongated, flattened crystals on the other side. I have seen one or the other before, but never both habits on either side of the same specimen. The piece is very sturdy, and not "bendable" as we often think of such leaf gold. It is really like looking at completely different specimens from either side. The Lead Side looks like it would be classic Red Ledge Mine material, but the other side is completely different than Red Ledge habits and consistent with crystalline gold from the Forest Hill District, Placer Co., California, USA. The specimen was last sold in 2006 by well-known gold specimen dealer Steve Rice, who would certainly have known, and it carries his label. 10 grams, though of course the display size belies the mass. The piece is 360 degrees, complete all around.
