A unique, old-time, bi-colored, etched topaz crystal from the Volodarsk-Volynskii, Ukraine. This striking, sherry-colored to blue-green, blocky, rectangular crystal looks like a block of melting colored ice, it's so glassy. The 3.8 x 3.5 x 1.0 cm, deep, vertical cleft or "crevasse" in the middle of the crystal is a dramatic feature on this historic piece. The beautiful etch patterns on the sides are classic Volodarsk. Topaz is much less common, than beryl from Volodarsk and this is a classic, very fine, old-timer from the George Elling Collection. Most such pieces date to prior to World War I, but no proof for this one. Weighs 401 grams or 14.2 ounces.
