This fascinating specimen formed when gemmy calcite crystals grew in the natural pocket formed by a buried fossil shell from the Cretaceous Period. The interior of the shell is now completely lined with these golden crystals! Clams containing golden calcite were also recovered from this find, but these were far rarer. This is a large, exceptional, truly aesthetic example from this find. Not many fine collector specimens come from Florida, of course!
