EXCEPTIONAL in several ways, this Calcite and Galena combination is from the New Glencrieff Mine in Scotland. Many of the Calcites from here are pointy scalenohedrons, but these elongated hexagonal prisms are excellently formed nail-head Calcites. The luster is good, and the longest crystal is an impressive 4.4 cm. This cluster rests on two euhedral Galenas, each of which is contacted on the bottom, of course. The largest Galena is 4.1 cm, and both Galenas have a preferential coating of gemmy, mm-size Calcites. All the Calcites have a blazing orange fluorescence. This combination piece is excellent, aesthetic, and unusual for New Glencrieff. Formerly in the personal collection of George Burnham.
