Although smaller spinel crystals are common enough, this is a very large, perfect, equant crystal with saturated red color, and a good size to make it a full competitive-sized thumbnail specimen (17.08 carats). Many in this size are rolled a bit, or missing a corner, or somehow just uneven in appearance. This is a textbook illustration, in red crystal. Old piece, as they are not found of this size and quality today. Obtained by collector Irv Brown from Bill Larson after one of his trips to Burma, years ago.
