This is a very fine small cabinet specimen of classic Halls Gap Millerite from a now inaccessible road-cut location closed to collecting (although I got there as a teenager and was collecting in the dangerous undercut ledge before the government closed it off). It features a dense nest of curved, hairlike crystals of Millerite in a Quartz-lined geode in limestone which is classic for the locality. The abundant, acicular Millerite "hairs" are brassy metallic and nearly fill the vug lined with stubby, off-white, milky Quartz crystals to a few millimeters. The presentation, color contrasts as well as textural contrast in this piece is just excellent. The George Loud label indicates that it was collected by Ashar and Nancy Tullis "pre 80" and that George Loud bought from the Rocksmiths in 1995. A classic, representative example from this now lost locality.
