A very aesthetic thumbnail specimen of Lazulite with Siderite from Rapid Creek in the Yukon Territory of Canada, with a relatively large crystal for this species isolated on contrasting matrix. This is a highly unusual aesthetic. There are at least a dozen crystals in this fine cluster with two most prominent: 1 cm and 1.7 cm crystals, conspicuously displayed leaping out of the group. All of the crystals are super lustrous, with good form and sharp edges and presenting a gorgeous, indigo blue color. The Lazulites contrast nicely with the somewhat rounded aggregates of brownish, rhombohedral crystals of Siderite. This full-sized competition level thumbnail specimen sits up nicely with great composition. Pieces of high quality with great crystals like this one are difficult to obtain and nothing has been collected from this famous locality for decades. This is from the famous heyday here of the 1980s, and was collected by Rod Tyson on one of his crazy helicopter expeditions into the deep Yukon to get these - nobody else wasted the time and money! His label is preserved, and this came to us in the 2026 purchase of the personal thumbnail collection of late dealer Jean Smith, who did shows with Rod for decades. Even from a distance, in a smaller specimen, one can tell that these Lazulites are a richer more consistent blue than you normally see, and the luster is superb. It is well above the norm in quality.
