Colorless crystals of calcite covering one side of matrix with minor fluorite and galena. The Heights Mine, situated near Westgate in Weardale, County Durham, England, has a historical timeline that began as an iron ore working operation active between 1850 and 1868. Geologically, the deposit is set within the North Pennine orefield, where Carboniferous limestone strata and associated vein systems were shaped by hydrothermal fluid circulation driven by regional tectonics and basement granites. Mineralogically, the site became world-renowned among collectors for producing exceptional specimens of green fluorite, frequently exhibiting sharp crystallization and twinning, which were actively recovered by specimen hunters well after commercial mining ceased until the late 20th century.
