Green crystallized malachite throughout matrix. The Lukuni Mine, situated near Kawama and northwest of Lubumbashi in the Haut-Katanga Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is part of the prominent Luiswishi group of deposits within the Central African Copperbelt. Geologically, the area is characterized by complex Neoproterozoic sedimentary sequences of the Roan Group, where intensely folded and faulted dolomitic rocks, megabreccias, and tectonic transport zones host significant base metal concentrations. Mineralogically, the deposit is celebrated for its rich copper and cobalt mineral assemblages, featuring secondary oxide and silicate species alongside primary sulfide minerals shaped by regional Pan-African tectonic and hydrothermal events. Historically, exploitation of these rich surface and near-surface oxide ores developed alongside regional colonial and modern industrial mining initiatives aimed at extracting the wealth of the Katangan copper arc.
