crystals of native copper measuring to 1.2 cm in size in a cluster with crystallized quartz. In good condition. The Evergreen Bluff Mine, located in Ontonagon County within the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, is part of the historic Keweenaw native copper district. Geologically, the deposit is situated within the Precambrian Keweenawan series, where copper-bearing hydrothermal fluids circulated through porous basaltic lava flow tops and interbedded conglomerates, precipitating native copper along specific stratiform beds known as the Evergreen lodes. Historically, the area showed evidence of pre-settlement pit mining by indigenous peoples, while modern commercial development began during the mid-to-late 19th-century Lake Superior copper boom. The mine operated intermittently under various corporate entities, contributing to the regional production of native copper from the local amygdaloidal and fissure deposits before operations eventually ceased.
