A stunning crystal with literally neon green color from the most important find of this species. This is a high level thumbnail single crystal, perfect, with the best neon color and a metallic luster within. The exceptional gem-quality diopside (var. chromian diopside) from the Karo Pit in the Merelani Hills, Tanzania, was discovered in December 2007. This remarkable find yielded some of the finest, most vibrant green diopside crystals ever recorded in the world. Long in IKONS book author Wayne Thompson's personal collection of Miniatures/Thumbnails built with his daughter, Stevia, when she was young. For more info on the find, see the Merelani issue of the Mineralogical Record, Sept-Oct 2009. The article mentions this find from the Karo pit (Block D) in December of 2007. Laszlo Kupi photo.
