Attractive combination piece with crystal groupings of colorless calcite measuring to 1.5 cm are in size across the top of a crystallized matrix of galena and sphalerite. This is in very good condition.The Mogilata deposit, part of the Septemvri Mine within the famous Madan ore field in Smolyan, Bulgaria, is situated in the central region of the Rhodope Massif. Geologically, the deposit consists of hydrothermal lead-zinc and quartz-sulfide veins and replacement bodies hosted within complex metamorphic schists and carbonate rocks, heavily influenced by local paleogene magmatism and fault structures. Mineralogically, it is celebrated for producing exceptional specimens of galena, sphalerite, pyrite, quartz, and distinctive carbonates. Historically, mining in the Madan region dates back to ancient Thracian and Roman times, but the modern industrial exploitation of the Mogilata and Septemvri sector expanded significantly during the mid-20th century under state-organized mining operations, establishing the district as a world-class locality for mineral collectors.
