Colorless disc-shaped crystals of calcite to 4.5 cm in size across the top of matrix with minor chalcopyrite. This is in good condition. Classic material for the species and locality. The Sasar Mine, located near Baia Mare in Maramures County, Romania, is part of a historic mining district with activities spanning several centuries, transitioning from early small-scale workings into intensive industrial operations during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries before scaling down toward the end of the modern era. Geologically, the deposit is situated within the Neogene volcanic chain of the Gutai Mountains and is associated with complex collapse structures and hydrothermal activity linked to calc-alkaline magmatism. The ore body consists primarily of low-sulfidation epithermal vein systems containing precious and base metals, notably gold, silver, lead, zinc, and copper, which were deposited by hydrothermal fluids interacting with local volcanic and sedimentary rocks.
