An excellent cluster of three intergrown and parallel Calcite crystals, with choice, glassy luster and GEMMY interiors, from famous finds around the years 2001-2002. This was in my own Calcite collection at the time, and since stored in the warehouse with much of my old collection from the 80s-90s that I have never gotten around to parting with! At the time, we did not know quite where they were from, and you will have seen these over the years with labels denoting at least 4 different locations in Hunan. In actuality they come from the Zhejiang province and were sold by Hunan mineral dealers out of Changsha and Chenzhou back in the day, with the true locality kept secret (similar but generally smaller crystals have since come out in Zhejiang and been labeled properly, by the way). Many of the great specimens from these finds are single hexagonal crystals, so to find three more tabular-to-elongated crystals in parallel growth, together, is out of the ordinary for the locality. There are some inclusions similar to what helps make its single cousins so spectacular, and there are many internal cleavage planes that are highly reflective, creating a glistening internal light show. Additionally, these cleavage planes have a soft orange fluorescence, unlike the bulk of the crystals. Fascinating. There is some wear along the edges but trivial in context, as this is really quite an aesthetic and unusual specimen.
